The creation and launch of Jiayu G2F this application provides ICE another useful tool to reach the public," said ICE Director of Public Affairs Brian Hale. "We recognize that people receive a great deal of information on their mobile devices and we are hopeful that this app will encourage them to submit tips about suspects and to learn more about our work investigating child exploitation crimes."
Joseph Mosbrook, a spokesman for Cleveland State, said what makes the app stand out is that it uses GPS and Wi-Fi to give a user’s precise location, so the campus police or emergency dispatchers can send help.
While specs on the phone are currently slim, the team does describe security being integrated through all layers of the phone, from hardware up to apps, and allowing users to securely engage in making and receiving phone calls, texting, file storage, video chat, private browsing, and VPN anonymizing. The phone will run on a secure flavor of Android called PrivatOS.
The hero 9300+ phone will run on PrivatOS, an Android-based operating system tailored to security. In addition, the phone itself comes unlocked, meaning that customers won’t be tied down to a specific carrier to use their phone.
The phone itself is a collaboration between the phone manufacturing company Geeksphone and the mobile security firm Silent Circle. Among the phone’s developers is Phil Zimmermann, who created the PGP encryption program that is still used to keep emails secure.
The company's founders have strong credentials in cryptography and mobile telephony. Silent Circle was responsible for creating a suite of tools for encrypted communication, and more famously, is known for its founder’s creation of PGP, or Pretty Good Privacy. In fact, the creator of PGP Phil Zimmerman describes his interest in PGP as a “detour” from his main interest in secure telephony, something which had to wait until now to let technology catch up.
When a student or faculty member opens the app, the main screen displays three panic buttons, for calling the police, the fire department, or emergency medical services. When one of the buttons is pressed, the caller can speak with a dispatcher or say nothing, placing the phone in a pocket unnoticed, and the GPS and Wi-Fi (if available) will pinpoint the location.
The Operation Predator App enables those who download it to receive alerts about wanted predators, to share the information with friends via email and social media tools, and to provide information to HSI by calling or submitting an online tip. Additionally, the app enables users to view news about arrests and prosecutions of child predators and additional resources about ICE and its global partners in the fight against child exploitation.Currently, the app can be downloaded from Apple's App Store or iTunes. ICE is also planning to expand compatibility to other hyundai x900 smartphones in the near future.
